Best New Online Marketing Articles for December 17th

Here are some of the best articles I’ve read over the past week. They have benefited me, hopefully they will you as well.

1. How I improved my public speaking

Public speaking is a skill required for anyone who wants to become better known in their industry. As someone who has also struggled in the past with speaking in front of others, it is refreshing to see successful people who are not afraid of sharing their struggles with speaking. My past experiences with speaking in front of others have been somewhat similar to those shared by Russ Hudgens. My voice has cracked, my hand has shook so bad I couldn’t hold a glass of water to my lips, my mind has even gone completely blank. But recently I’ve made great strides in improving my public speaking skills. I’m no Barak Obama, Ronald Reagan, or Abraham Lincoln, and I don’t have any illusions that I ever will be, but I am much better than I have been in the past. Russ shares his journey and gives some tips about how he improved himself after some admittedly disastrous performances. If you have struggled with public speaking and want to get better, this article is a must-read.

2. Link-building my imitation

Another goodie that I stumbled upon while reading the above blog post was this slide presentation also created by Russ Hudgens.

I was featured as part of a small business series in Dothan Magazine a few months ago and one of the things I mentioned is that what we do as SEOs is essentially a very technical form of marketing. It was nice to see someone else voice similar thoughts. The fact is, as an software engineer (as I am) or a computer science grad, you have a very desirable set of skills in the field of online marketing. Nothing is better than helping your clients outsmart their competition.
